AAAS has an exciting opportunity for a 12-week paid summer internship with the Editorial team!

As an Editorial Intern, you will assist our team of life sciences editors with the evaluation and editing of manuscripts. This is a terrific opportunity to gain practical experience with various aspects of scholarly journal publishing.

What You'll Do

  • Gain an understanding of the evaluation, review, and editing of submitted research manuscripts.
  • Read and comment submitted manuscripts in their field and discuss with editors to understand how decisions are made.
  • Help editors to select reviewers for manuscripts.
  • Discuss reviewer comments with the editorial team.
  • Have the opportunity to write short summaries of research papers for publication.
  • Collaborate with editors to guide authors on manuscript revisions and edit the manuscripts for scientific content and style.
  • Participate in weekly meetings such as the Covers meeting, and the Editorial Planning meeting to gain insight into the production process.

Minimum Requirements

  • Be close to completion of a PhD program in the life sciences
  • Evidence of good communication skills

Internship Details

This is a full-time, paid internship, which will run from June 3, 2024 - August 23, 2024. The anticipated initial rate of compensation for this position is $25 per hour. We are able to hire remote workers in select states. If you are not located in or able to relocate to a state where AAAS has a business presence, you may not be eligible for this position.
