ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

LOCATION: Tampa, FL

DIRECT REPORTING: Chief Engineer

POSITION DETAILS

Position Summary

The Engineering Chief of Staff is responsible for supporting the Chief Engineer with all aspects of design engineering and manufacturing engineering for the Aerospace and Defense (A&D), Tampa location. Primary responsibilities include support for design of new product, sustaining engineering, research and development, engineering support functions, and the engineering test lab. The Engineering Chief of Staff works in a cross-functional environment with other functional leaders within the business, providing robust support and partnership to Product Management, Sales & Marketing, Quality, Operations, Human Resources and Supply Chain.

Principal Activities

  • Support review all new business opportunities for technical suitability and fit, risk and ensure a cost effective and producible solution is recommended
  • Assist Chief Engineer to oversee all new product introduction programs to ensure technical, cost and schedule adherence to program expectations
  • Develop and maintain clear understanding of engineering program scope, schedule, budget and business-case through detailed review of customer documents and other communications as assigned.
  • Support alignment of personnel with scope of engineering programs and help determine adequate staffing/resources
  • Support factory operations at site for product, diagnostics and improvements
  • Check test capabilities are aligned to program and product needs and ensure cost effective and schedule effective utilizations of assets as assigned.
  • Help ensure high technical competence of the engineering team is maintained and developed
  • Develop a high performing, data driven culture that deploys lean enterprise techniques to target and drive continuous improvement
  • All other duties and tasks as assigned

Job Requirements:

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering - Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil or Electrical required
  • Master's Degree in Engineering or MBA is a plus
  • 10+ years in engineering
  • 5+ years engineered product experience (aerospace hydraulic and electro-mechanical devices - Actuators, Valves, DC, motors) is strongly preferred

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of valve industry accepted component design and analysis techniques and industry standards for configuration and document control.
  • High ethical standards. Models and supports organization's goals and values; adapts to changing conditions; demonstrates persistence and overcomes obstacles.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize, balance, and manage multiple efforts with strong results/goal orientation. Uses time effectively, prioritizes and organizes work flow; can orchestrate multiple activities at once. Agility and personal adaptability with the ability to successfully management multiple priorities with a high sense of urgency in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong presentation skills. Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with the ability to convey information and ideas in a variety of media. Ability to communicate effectively across mediums, audiences, and situations.
  • Solid analytical skills and solution-driven thinking; collects and researches data; uses intuition and experience to complement data. Makes good decisions based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience and judgment.
  • Displays original thinking and creativity; Meets challenges with resourcefulness; Generates suggestions for improving work or finding customer solutions.
  • Demonstrated lean manufacturing and improvement strategy development and implementation.
  • Solid analytical skills and solution-driven thinking. Able to use large amounts of data to make strategic decisions.
  • MS Office applications
  • Basic knowledge of SolidWorks or Catia CAD, PDM software
