Title:Engineer (II-IV)- Mechanical or Chemical

Shift: 8 Hr. X 5 Days

POSITION CONCEPT:
This position provides mechanical/process support for a coal/natural gas fired unit and a combined cycle unit. In addition to equipment ownership, this position provides technical support for operations and maintenance to support the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the Big Bend Power Station.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Within the limits of authorized objectives, policies, procedures, plans, schedules and budgets, this position has the responsibility and commensurate authority to:

  • Provide support for Big Bend Station Safety and Environmental programs and goals.
  • Provide daily technical direction and leadership to Maintenance Planning/Scheduling and Superintendents of Plant Operations in solving problems with mechanical systems (Boiler, HRSGs, FGD, Rotating equipment, CTs).
  • Provide technical direction, supervision, and assistance to outside contractors and plant personnel for assigned equipment.
  • Prepare estimates and provide input to the Big Bend Operating & Maintenance, and Capital budgets. Provide project cost control and input to outage schedules and assigned projects.
  • Investigate and analyze new products and procedures and direct plant personnel in implementation of the findings. Make design improvements and recommendations to reduce costs, improve operations, enhance equipment life, increase station EAF and reduce fuel costs.
  • Assist with inspections of all assigned equipment during outages or overhauls to evaluate overall condition and document remaining life assessment. Generate work orders for future work. Lead the review of spare parts and PMs and work with maintenance planning to ensure any gaps detected with sparing and PMs are corrected.
  • Provide technical support and training to plant operating and maintenance personnel on assigned equipment. Stay engaged with the Asset Management team to ensure assigned equipment is properly operated and maintained.

EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from an accredited college.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Required: Please refer to the licenses/certification minimum requirements per the TEC Engineering Career Path, Administrative Policy 2.13 for each level as applicable.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Minimum of 4 years of engineering work experience related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position is required. Related experience consists of: working in an industrial environment or facility where the primary responsibility was maintaining industrial sized mechanical equipment.

SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE
Preferred: Two years of supervisory experience over contractors and consultants.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Required: Must be able to resolve a variety of issues/topics that are non-routine and complex with complete independence. Experience/ownership with power plant equipment.

WORK CONDITIONS:
This position is not a work from home position. Work hours may exceed 40 hour per week where work is executed indoors, outdoors, from elevated platforms and around hot and audible equipment. Work will require use of ladders and stairs. Work may be required on the weekend and require employee to remain on call.

The successful applicant will be required to take and pass a Baseline Medical Examination as part of the pre-employment screening once an offer has been accepted.
