The Cost Accountant is responsible for product costing, product manufacturing analysis, and inventory valuation. The position provides recommendations to senior management in support of the achievement of Company goals.
Position Responsibilities
Product / Inventory costing
Verify compliance with the cost accounting system processes and controls, documentation, and records
Identify, analyze, and report variances in product costing, job costing and production activities
Determine overhead rates for material procurement and control, production and process engineering labor and selling and administrative costs
Track and analyze actual performance versus overhead rates
Based on cost variance analysis results determine the appropriateness of standard costs and suggest cost modifications
Maintain and report inventory valuation detail
Conduct and record quarterly excess and obsolete inventory review process
Support product cost justification requests from customers or audit agencies
Support internal requests for historical cost data primarily to be used in quoting activity for new business
Financial Reporting
Perform month end close activities (record and reconcile) dependent on product costing results including inventory valuation and the recording of manufacturing variances
Prepare and distribute product and program cost data
General
Meet the noted responsibilities indicating the appropriate level of accountability through verbal and written reports to management and through accurate and timely accounting records, reconciliation and financial statements
Address promptly any follow-up requested based on meeting the above noted responsibilities
Serve as a backup in the accounting department when necessary and participate in accounting projects as directed by the Division Controller or Vice President of Finance
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Proficient and effective in Microsoft Office Suite with advance knowledge in Excel and Access as well as manufacturing costing methodology
Extensive experience in cost accounting methodology, cost application and overhead rates in manufacturing (building from raw through WIP and FG)
Direct experience with product costing for government accounting contracts and cost modeling
Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with close attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage confidential information.
Team player who can work in a dynamic & demanding work environment.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Business with a concentration in Accounting or Finance
At least three years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
Direct experience with government accounting and associated Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR)
Effective and efficient in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software in manufacturing environments of any industry
